BUSINESS: Attention Marketing Dept. - USE SPELL CHECK!
It happens to us all at one time or another. Hit the wrong key,
maybe a few wrong keys on the keyboard and it's game over.
What seems like a minor error to the one typing becomes a nightmare for readers,
when proofreading does not catch the goofs.
Having done it myself, when typing way too much in a day, I can
relate to those who make the errors. However, I am also one of
those readers who will catch quickly any mistake or misspelled
word on a page - if the page is not my own work that is!
If you are just typing up an article like this one, I will not complain
if you have one or two typos. I will question it if I find two or three
misspelled words, but I will move on and forgive. HOWEVER! If you are
placing an ad - be it online, in print or on television - DON'T MISSPELL
WORDS! I will remember your error long after I have forgotten your ad's
message. I have seen this so many times that I cannot even count them.
I once saw a HUGE roadside billboard advertisement that had two
misspelled words. [and no, it was not an ad for spellchecker software!] That is a very large investment into making
a bad name for your company and especially your marketing dept.
Paying attention to the details is so important when you are trying to convince the public to trust you and your company, as well as your products or services.
If you have to rush your ad ... STOP! Wait until there is no rush so it is done right.
I would rather see you miss an ad deadline and lose a little money
than I would to see you spend the money to defeat your purpose because you
did not take the time that was needed to do it correctly. The money loss
will be much greater if you spoil your reputation, just to meet a deadline imposed upon you.
If you are too hurried to spend time making a quality advertisement,
I really and truly suggest outsourcing the responsibility to a company that guarantees
their work and takes the time to perform a high quality service for you.
Sometimes we try to wear too many hats to save a little money.
If you are wearing too many hats to save a dime or two, please rethink it.
You end up risking much more than the money in your pocket at the moment, by risking the money your viewers would have spent on your products or services had you sold them on the idea a bit better. This can happen so easily when we are doing things we are really not qualified to do, so it is not done in the manner those viewing have come to expect.
Contracted Work (dot) com is a place to shop around for those who can do what you need done, usually at a great rate.
Check it out to see if you can have your needs met there! Get a Freelancer (dot) com also offers the same type of service. You post the job you want done and freelancers bid on the project and you decide which one to go with. Very helpful when it is only a job now and then you need handled.
