One of the hardest parts of starting a new business or website is getting the word out and letting others know you are here!
This takes a lot of perseverance, time, effort and energy; however, the rewards are great and you will feel the excitement grow
as you see the business and traffic to your site grow.
I am assuming that you have already made sure you have your business license, all other legal aspects covered, your domain name, email account set up, and a website ready and rolling... If you have not yet tended to one of those things - time to stop here and have those in order prior to proceeding.
Step 1. Stop - Drop - Roll.
First step in starting a successful business is STOP what you are doing - DROP everything - ROLL up your sleeves and make up your mind you WILL succeed.
Step 2. Set Goals and Make a Plan.
Set your goals, both short and long term, then make a plan to help you meet those goals. By making a plan for your day, ahead of time, you will be better focused and able to stay on track. Decide what is important and weed out those things that do not get you to your goal. Daily planning is vital.
Step 3. Prioritize.
If you do not set priorities as well as boundaries on your time, DAILY, you will become overwhelmed, exhausted and will eventually burn out.
Other people will also rob you of your precious time, for things that are not of importance to your goals, and you will run out of this vital commodity.
Step 4. Be Accountable to Someone Besides Yourself.
It may be a spouse, a friend, a business associate, a life coach ... but we all need someone we can run ideas by, speak to about our successes and failures, and someone whom we can be open with, about our plans and progress, allowing them into our life, business and head enough for them to critique us.
Step 5. Be #1 in what you do.
You do not have to be a big company to be the very best. By setting your sites on being the very best, careful to attend to each detail as you go, you will soar.
Offer the best in product and service. Offer the very best in customer service, be it working with the public or business to business.
Listen carefully to details and concerns of those you work with and for, and respond to them, timely! These will take you to the top and soon you will
not be a "small, new company".
Step 6. Network - Network - Network.
Get to know who is out there in your circle of influence. Get to know your competition, those who have resources you will use in the course of your business cycle, and those who will use your product and/or service. By networking with people, and being professional yet friendly to all, they will then remember you when they think of your product or service type. This is very important as it is a great way to grow your business. This is also a great way to hear about things you would normally never know of ... things and ways that will help you in the day to day running of your business.
Step 7. When Things Get Tough - Keep Going.
Some days, in any business, you are going to get half way through the day and wonder why you ever got out of bed. It will seem as though nothing is
going right, and it is just not working. This is when you take a deep breath, gather your bootstraps, and keep on going.
Find a way to gather the inner strength to focus on ways of making any changes you can to change your outlook and the course your business seems
on for the day. And remember - one bad day does not a business ruin.
