What does your company offer? ... Our company offers baby booties that are easy to put on, stay on and keep babies feet warm and dry. They are fleece-lined with a coated-nylon upper and a rubberized sole. Because of their unique shape the booties will fit over whatever the baby is wearing - socks, slippers, jammies, bare feet or even shoes. This makes them so versatile because when it gets a bit colder you can just add a layer on the inside. Then you simply tighten the toggles at the calf and ankle and you have a custom fit which secures them so they don't come off those wiggly, kicking feet! They are quick to put on so you and your baby can be mobile in minutes. They are lightweight so the baby hardly notices they have them on and you can carry them around with you easily. They are machine washable so when you get them wet or dirty you can get them dry and clean quickly, unlike a typical shoe. And they are soft soled which is recommended for babies developing feet.

How did your company come to be? ... Our company began when Lisa (from Vancouver, B.C.) met Tracey (from Kamloops, B.C.) at Whistler. Tracey was carrying her youngest child (Sterling - age 6 months) on her back in a backpack. On his feet were the coolest booties that Lisa had ever seen. Since she had a 1 year old (Lachlan) and had been desperately trying to find exactly this thing for her son, she needed to know where to buy these perfect booties. Tracey said that she couldn't find them in any store so made them herself 4.5 years earlier for her first son (Alexander). Tracey's daughter (Sophie, age 3 at the time) had also spent 2.5 years in them.

Tracey and her husband (Nicolas) loved to be outside and didn't want to give that up just because they had children. Lisa and her husband (Mark) also loved to be outside with their son but found that poor Lachlan's feet were always cold. Everything they tried on his feet either fell off or didn't keep him warm enough. Lisa and Tracey talked for 2 hours in the Whistler Village about how there was nothing else like it on the market and how many other people were desperate to find something so amazingly functional for their newborns and toddlers.

Since Tracey's children had been wearing them for a total of 4.5 years, she was well aware of the attention they got when they had them on. She had been stopped so many times by people just like Lisa, desperate to find something that stayed on and stayed warm and dry while their babies were being carried in backpacks, front carriers, strollers, slings, and bike trailers or even walking short distances.

Only Lisa was different than all the other people that had stopped her in the past. She felt so passionately that EVERYONE with a child needed these booties that 6 months later, she and Tracey formed Stonz and began making baby booties for the world. Now 3.5 years later and 5 children between us (Lisa's second child, Mikala, is now 18 months) we have Stonz booties on babies all over the world.

How is your company unique? ... Both of us had successful careers in fields that were completely unrelated to what we are doing now with Stonz. Tracey was a geologist/oceanographer and Lisa an energy trader. We started Stonz because we knew our booties were an amazing product that would obviously make every parent and caregiver's life so much easier.

Stonz is unique because our booties are not just cute they are the definition of function. We can honestly say that both of us used or are still using our booties everyday. In all weather conditions we have found them the easiest, most practical thing we own for our babies.

The other thing unique to our company is that we both live in different cities, 400 km's apart. This makes running a business challenging at best but has also required us to use our very different skill sets to divide and conquer all our tasks (we have also single handedly kept the phone companies in business).

Tell us about you, your partner, your family? ... As for the company, Tracey is the designer, creator whose passion was to have something she created be in the hands of the public and Lisa is the business and marketer, whose passion was to start and grow a business. We have a great partnership with such differing skill sets and we are really enjoying what we are doing. We feel that Stonz baby booties promote a healthy lifestyle, less stress, added time, increased physical activity and great quality time with your babies and your family.

Tracey's husband once said " the reason we do so much more with our kids these days is because we have the 'gear' to do it. Our parents didn't have jogging strollers, fancy backpacks and Stonz booties so it just wasn't as easy." Both of us (and our families) lead very active lives (as most people do) and love to do things with our kids like hiking, bike riding, camping, skiing, strolling etc. It is of course much more difficult to do all these things with a baby or toddler. We needed gear that was lightweight, warm, water and wind resistant, quick to put on over whatever our babies were wearing (very convenient), and that all important feature - something that stayed on! So Stonz booties were created to allow us to do all of our activities because ultimately our families are the most important things to us.

Family Review Center is pleased to feature Stonz, both in the featured company article and in the review center. Stonz is a company we have come to love because of the products they offer and because of the dedication, enthusiasm, creative spirit and desire to make a difference in the lives of our children (and families!) that we see depicted in both Lisa and Tracey. They are a true treasure team.
