The book series offered by Playdate Kids Publishing is two fold. First, they offer a self help series, designed to help children through transitional and trying times in life. The second is a musical series, that is all about getting children excited about music and up on their feet dancing, while exploring the wonderous joys of bodily functions and being a child... Topics in the musical series are covered in a humorous fashion, while the self help series is a very positive, caring approach for the topics covered.

We have awarded the self help series with our prestigious gold award, because it takes sensitive issues and helps children work through them in a calm and well presented manner.

These books share at a child's level the emotion, the trauma, the drama, the reality and the hope that each covered situation can bring. Topics covered are ones that are commonly faced in life, eventhough we wish we could shelter our children from facing the pain and reality of them many times. The storylines are well laid out, thoughtful and sensitive, and the graphics are splendidly rich. Bright, colorful cartoons that captivate you with their vivid character.

Danny Is Moving: This book is great when you are facing a move with a young child. It is open about the cares and concerns children have, when facing leaving behind those people, places, and routines they are familiar with and fond of. It then shares with them the exciting parts of the move as well, offering a balance and acceptance of their personal feelings and views on the moving experience.

Dakota's Mom Goes To The Hospital: This book is wonderful when you are facing something like surgery and will have to be away in the hospital for a while. Children have a hard time with this, as they are used to mommy always being there. Walking through this book with your child multiple times prior to your scheduled hospital stay would be terrific, if there is time to plan ahead like that. This book shares the topic of illness, and explains at a child's level why people go to the hospital, and that they do return home once they are well. I like that it also covers how things change while mom is out of the home - no one can replace mom or do things the same way ... but when everyone works together, in mom's absence, things will work out and mom will be proud of a job well done.

Chloe's New Baby Brother: This book shows true emotions an only child feels many times, when suddenly they have to share mom and dad with a new baby. This book helps a child to understand the positive aspects of the new family member, and also helps them to understand their feelings are normal and can be expressed in a positive manner to someone who will care and listen. Instilling this positive reinforcement prior to bringing home the new baby can add a level of excitement and anticipation for the upcoming event, which will help to form a positive bond once baby arrives.

Based on sound principles, values and character traits, this series is highly recommended for children ages 3-6 who may face tough situations. These are excellent books to introduce a child to, even if they are not currently going through these situations, as this will help instill in them the truth and security of knowing that should things happen, they will be able to make it, and have a supportive family structure to be there to help.
