As we know, from experience and studies, children learn by example.
Children start as copycats from a very early age, and from that develop their own style based on their unique personality. Because they learn by watching others, it is so important for us as a parents to be very disciplined in what we allow them to see.
Randomly turning on the television is not a good idea. Even many 'cartoons' are not things I wish for my children to experience. Having alternatives to the normal media is not only a good idea, it is almost a mandate in the world and culture we live in.
The Little Adventurers DVD by The Little Playdates Company is a perfect choice for young children ages 6 months to 3 years. From as young as six months infants enjoy seeing other children. The Little Adventurers DVD provides this stimuli for the very young and then adds to it the aspect of positive social interaction in play for the older toddlers. This DVD gets up close to the children. You encounter them at play and on outings, such as to the museum. As an adult you view them as precious children that are darling to watch. But for your children, it is a positive reinforcement toward good behavior and positive social interaction that they may not have the opportunity to experience readily on a daily basis otherwise. When I turned on the video to watch it for reviewing, my two year old was in the room. The moment the music started, she glanced at it. She then went about what she was doing. Then she looked again as they began to interact in play, and from that moment on she was glued to it, laughing and smiling until the 30 minutes had lapsed and it was over. I would call it a two thumbs up nod from her. The video has great background music, featuring songs of childhood. Because they are young children, there is no talking, but rather fun interaction between children showing positive behaviors such as sharing, team work, and acceptance. There is a multicultural blend of children starring in the video, with children ranging in ages from a few months to a few years old. I also noticed a child star who had a physical disability, which opens up the door to understanding in children old enough to notice and ask you questions. These aspects make for a great collaboration that were intentional details of this great video. Once you have viewed the movie through, I encourage you to watch the bloopers segment for chuckles. This shows a few clips of how fun it is working with very young stars and how things don't always go as planned. It was cute. Job well done, Playdates Company! Children will learn to say the names of the animals in spanish and enjoy the journey through a great video they will greatly enjoy. Many little surprises and giggles will be found while watching and you will enjoy watching your child as they begin to enjoy a second language in such an easy to learn from manner, even at a young young age. Parents will appreciate the language guide that is included so you can get each word translated as it first appears in the movie. When you are a parent who does not have the ability of a second language, it is great to have a method for your children that starts them on the road
to learning spanish, which is very helpful in the day and age we live in. This movie is designed for children ages 2-5 and my daughter loves it.
The movie uses spanish in an immersion format and will have them relating to the words and speaking them much quicker than you think. I was quite surprised how quickly my daughter started picking up on what she was viewing and using the spanish words herself. The movie uses puppets, along with the host of the show Maria and many children who join her. Children are taught how to use spanish for body parts as well as words used in play, such as doing the animated song "head and shoulders knees and toes" ... A very happy, bouncy video that kids love and enjoy joining in with as the children dance, sing, and play. My daughter watches it frequently and asks for it even more than she is able to watch it. For days the Whistlefritz movies were almost all she wanted to watch. There is a translation guide for us parents who do not know the language that will be very helpful in translating what you are hearing and enable you to reinforce what is shown when trying to help teach your child to take it further with their newly learned language skills. Whistlefritz has other titles available and they offer specials if you purchase more than one title. This is a great cd for teachers, parents, dental hygienists, etc. to help teach good oral hygiene to those little ones.
Geared toward children 3-9, this cd is a single track cd with a great song about how to brush your teeth.
My daughter loved it. She liked the background sound effects I think most of all. "A TRAIN! A CHOO CHOO TRAIN!" she said.
Soon we were doing the toothbrush dance - where we danced around waving our arms and hands as if brushing our teeth.
(silly yes, but at age 3 she loves the addition of dance to any song).
The song is great - it covers everything from getting the brush wet, using a pea sized amount of paste, brushing gently back and forth, brushing the tongue, rinsing ... it is all covered and with a very catchy beat. One key concept I noted - the track is about 1 minute 48 seconds long ... This is very close to the recommended 2 minutes they suggest for adequate brushing of teeth ... So, you could play this song while they brush their teeth and tell them they need to continue brushing until the song is done. And who knows ... if they like the song as much as my daughter did, they just may want to brush for a second round of the song. If they listen while they brush they will have fun reminders of how to brush best. Dental health is very important, and learning good oral hygiene when young is vital. Poor dental health will overlap into poor physical health and we want to instill a good oral hygiene routine in them from the very youngest of ages, so this remains with them throughout life. When they are older, sporting a beautiful white smile and few cavities / fillings, they will thank you. Sometimes it is hard to get them on track and to stay there with brushing regularly, but hopefully using something as simple as this little one track cd, can help make it more enjoyable and more easily remembered. <<<- (2008) RETURN TO TOP |
